Welcome back to another chapter of the Big Little Things blog series, where we highlight some of the lesser-known and sometimes overlooked features and enhancements in Vtiger CRM that pack a big punch. This article focuses on the Dependent Field/Block feature, which allows administrators to set dependencies on fields or blocks based on the values of other fields. Let’s dive in to learn more about this feature. What is a dependent field/block function? As mentioned above, this feature allows administrators to set dependencies that will show or hide fields or blocks on a record based on picklist values selected on other fields belonging to the same module. Let's see an example:
Once a case is marked as resolved, the support manager who is the administrator of their Vtiger account wants their support team to select from a list of values (select list) in a field called "Solution Type". They do not want WhatsApp Number List this field to appear on the record or be filled in until the case's status changes to Resolved. However, once the case is marked as resolved, they want this field to be required and filled out before saving the record. Support managers can use the related fields/blocks feature to hide the Solution Type field until the user marks the case's status field as resolved.
Features The above scenario is just one example of how to use the dependency block/field feature, but the possibilities are endless. They will also vary depending on the needs of the business. Here are some additional benefits users will enjoy after implementing this feature: Clean up your records with this – display fields and blocks only when relevant for faster viewing and navigation. Customization – Use custom fields and dependencies to ensure relevant data is entered in the right field at the right time. Clear processes and workflows – Ensure your users are all following the same process by setting enforced dependencies.
