The Bing search engine has decided to add a "fact checking" label to indicate to users whether news content or articles have been approved after fact-checking . The goal is of course to assure users that information has been verified or not, although this does not guarantee 100% that the sources are reliable...
The fact-checking label can be applied to any page that has off page seo service Schema.org semantic markup of the ClaimReview type . While news articles are specifically targeted for this type of verification, Bing can also choose pages or articles marked with ClaimReview that the engine deems important to notify. Note that only when Bing specifies it can a page or article add additional fact-checking information!
Bing Fact Checking in Search Engine News
Bing imposes a few criteria in order to verify the facts present in articles. First of all, the contents must cite their sources or their methods of analysis. Normally, each verified part must be identified so that readers can know what has been validated by the Bing teams or not (only part of the contents can be verified for example, etc.). Finally, the pages marked with ClaimReview must add at least a brief description of the fact-checking and its evaluation.
To put it simply, Bing looks for pages that have the ClaimReview properties specific to Schema.org . If this markup is present, the engine looks for other factors in the pages to know which ones deserve a fact check . This is how the process is launched with third-party organizations . If we have pages or articles selected for this, we must therefore mark them semantically by adding the useful information (summary of the verification, evaluation, etc.).
Fact checking can be displayed in news sections (see screenshot above) but also in SERPs for pages that Bing has verified after assessing the usefulness of fact checking . As a reminder, Bing is not the only engine to offer this type of solution, Google also added this type of fact checking in April 2017 .
